UCLA

Hats Off to the Class of 2014

Before graduating seniors of 2014 took a dip into the Inverted Fountain and walked out as UCLA alumni, friends and family gathered together at Pauley Pavilion to welcome the class of 2014. At the ceremony, Nobel laureate Randy Schekman received the UCLA Medal, the university's highest honor, from Chancellor Gene Block and basketball legend and UCLA alumnus Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

During Commencement, Abdul-Jabbar offered some insight to the new graduates: "Dr. Schekman could have stayed in his lab polishing his Nobel Prize, wishing it was an NBA championship trophy," he said. "But he didn't. He took on the scientific establishment because he believes there's a better way."

Commencement speaker and graduating senior, Andrew Ho, told his fellow grads to "think of the lasting friendships you've made, the bonds you've formed, and the memories you've shared."

Congratulations to the Class of 2014!
