UCLA celebrated the re-opening of the world-famous arena with a week of festivities.
Following a fantastic week of festivities, the newly renovated Pauley Pavilion was properly christened on November 9 and 10 when men’s and women’s basketball teams, respectively, opened their 2012-13 seasons on the new Nell and John Wooden Court. An electric crowd watched as Joe Bruin zip-lined across Pauley while fireworks exploded and the UCLA marching band and spirit squad performed. The men’s game was against Indiana State, the only other college team that Bruins legend John Wooden coached.

A week earlier, on the evening of Friday, Nov. 2, 10,000 students and 1,300 parents who were on campus for Parents’ Weekend attended "Pauley Opening Madness" for an early look at the new arena. UCLA student groups, including the Kyodo Taiko drum group, NSU Modern dance troupe and vocalist India Carney, provided the entertainment and showcased their pride for the "New Pauley."
Earlier that week, students, faculty, alumni and UCLA friends attended the unveiling of a statue of John Wooden. Pauley also hosted an invitation-only reception for campus community leaders and UCLA sports legends and donors who contributed to the Campaign of Champions to finance the renovation.
