Welcome to the City: A Year-Round Tradition

Whether you’ve just moved or are a lifelong resident, exploring where you live can be fun and exciting. UCLA Alumni are eager to welcome you to your city!

Originally created for recent graduates, Welcome to the City (W2C) hosts dozens of events each year that provide unique opportunities for alumni to bond with fellow Bruins and explore their city. Open to all alumni, as well as to friends and family of alumni, W2C keeps Bruins across all generations connected and enriched with True Bruin spirit.

W2C presents a variety of localized adventures to alumni of varying activity levels and interests. Alumni can choose activities around their city that range from a leisurely picnic in the park to paddle-boarding in the beautiful Pacific Ocean. W2C focuses specifically on activities in distinct geographic locations so Bruins can go on outings personalized to them and customized exactly to their area. From San Diego to Indonesia, events are hosted around the globe and offer alumni the chance to discover the culture and history of their home.

Past events have led daring alumni to the summit of the world’s smallest active volcano, Mount Taal in the Philippines, and gathered Bruins for a relaxing champagne brunch and an enthusiastic eight-clap in Seattle. Alumni have also come together for philanthropic causes such as the AIDS Walk Los Angeles with the UCLA Lambda Alumni Association, an event that helped benefit dozens of HIV/AIDS service organizations.

As a UCLA Alumni member, if you are passionate about local art, enjoy scenic hiking or delight in your region’s authentic cuisine, you can volunteer to host a gathering. Events hosted by alumni networks are another excellent way for Bruins who identify with a particular community to get involved with the program. Alumni attend museum tours, lunches and outdoor explorations hosted by UCLA Alumni Networks, like the UCLA Alumni Veterans Network, in order to meet Bruins.

Since its inception, the 3-year-old program has put on more than 40 events and has been gaining popularity with alumni in numerous countries. W2C is growing beyond a strictly seasonal affair into a proud year-round UCLA Alumni tradition. Visit www.alumni.ucla.edu/w2c and let UCLA Alumni welcome you to your city!
