Holiday tunes may still ring in your ears, but it's never too early to start planning your kid's favorite part of the year — summer. Bruin camps are a great place to start, offering a wide variety of fun for the entire family.

If your youngster dreams of athletic glory, or just likes to play, UCLA sports camps are the way to go. Every sport that the Bruins compete in — from baseball to golf and even rowing — offers different camp programs instructed by the same coaches that produced more NCAA championships than any other university. Last year, nearly 6,700 kids participated.

The camps, all held on campus, are usually four days long, although some sports offer more intensive overnight camps. Accommodations are provided for overnight campers in the residence halls, with meals in UCLA dining halls. They run from June until the beginning of September. Each sport varies in pricing, camper age range and exact dates.

For a summer break for the entire family, try a classic: the breathtaking views at Bruin Woods Family Resort at Lake Arrowhead. This mountain resort offers a week of fun for all ages and an opportunity for parents to reconnect with other Bruin alumni.

Bruin Woods camp activities are all grouped by age and include arts and crafts, archery and boat cruises. Camp counselors are current UCLA students, qualified to give your kids a memorable weeklong adventure. Special accommodations are made for any teens in your crew, including off-site outings and an end-of-the-week dance. And while your kids are hiking, swimming and making new friends, you'll find plenty to do, including fitness classes, dancing, karaoke and cooking classes.

If you worry about finding a summer program that fits the diverse interests of your kids, then UCLA Recreation's Summer Camps offer just the variety you need. Every year, they sponsor a wide variety of camps for kids ages 4-17. From science camps to arts and crafts to swimming and tennis lessons, the camps are specifically designed to meet the age-related needs of your child. Bruin Tots is perfect for first-time summer campers, while your teens will find an adventure sailing and surfing in the beautiful waters off the coast of Southern California. Recreation even offers a Bruins on Broadway camp, perfect if you have a budding singing superstar in your household.
