When a City of Los Angeles water main ruptured under Sunset Boulevard on July 29, 20 million gallons of water poured onto campus, flooding buildings, submerging hundreds of cars and leaving staff, students and visitors stranded. But in a burst of esprit de corps, Bruins from all over campus pitched in to help in any way they could: mopping, giving rides home, handing out food, even finding emergency sleeping quarters. Their generous actions not only ensured the safety of others — no one was hurt — but also helped ease the pain of a devastating situation.
