NO, THIS IS NOT SOME SURREAL PLEDGE-WEEK RITUAL. This is the scene at a recent manifestation of the biweekly Bollywood Bhangra workout class on campus, a paean to the elaborate and dramatic dances at the heart of India's iconic "Bollywood" film industry and subculture. The North Indian Punjabi folk dance began as a way to celebrate the harvest, but was brought to Westwood by UCLA Recreation's FITWELL Program as a new and novel form of working out. As this photo — shot in a mirror — shows, the class is also a way for everybody to get in touch with their inner diva. So get those hands up and start dancing.
