  • In 1992, according to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, 94% of research is not painful to the animals involved. In the majority of cases (58%), animals are not exposed to or involved in any painful procedures. So, I don't think the authorities should care for the oppositions on this front.

  • Would any of the scientists mentioned in Ms. Gable's article subject their family cat or dog to an experimental meth addiction? So why is it acceptable using a monkey or a mouse? Only prejudice allows us to deny others the rights that we expect to have for ourselves. Whether itís based on race, gender or species, prejudice is morally unacceptable. Dogs and pigs have the same capacity to feel pain, but it is prejudice that has us think of one animal as a companion and the other as dinner.
